- A mini-screw (TAD) is a very small screw temporarily placed in the jawbone. It serves as an anchor to extend the range of tooth movement.
- MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expander) uses mini-screws for expansion and is used when skeletal maxillary expansion is needed in adult patients.

Can I have orthodontic treatment even at an older age?
Yes. Even if the condition of your teeth and gums is poor, preliminary treatment can improve your oral health enough to proceed with orthodontic treatment. In cases where skeletal correction is needed, orthognathic surgery may be combined; however, the use of mini-screws in orthodontic treatment has expanded the range of tooth movement, making a wider variety of treatments possible. Orthodontic treatment is possible regardless of age, provided that appropriate oral hygiene management is maintained.
How long does treatment take?
It varies depending on the complexity of the case, but the average is approximately 1.5 to 2.5 years. Extraction-based orthodontics typically takes 2 to 2.5 years; non-extraction cases generally take 1.5 to 2 years.
Is orthodontic treatment possible for working adults?
Yes. Unlike traditional bracket braces, clear aligners are barely visible, making them ideal for those who have frequent face-to-face interactions at work. Combining clear aligners with mini-screws and mini-tubes also expands the range of tooth movement, allowing for effective treatment across a wider range of cases.
What if I need cavity or gum treatment during orthodontics?
If cavities or gum disease develop during orthodontic treatment, the orthodontic appliance is partially adjusted or temporarily removed as needed before proceeding with treatment. Can my teeth shift back after orthodontic treatment?
Teeth have a natural tendency to return to their original position, so relapse can occur even after orthodontic treatment — especially if retainer wear is insufficient. Retainer wear is therefore essential. Both fixed and removable retainers are used as appropriate, and wearing a retainer for at least one to two years after treatment completion is generally recommended.
Is orthodontic treatment possible if I have implants or dental prosthetics?
Yes. However, implants are fixed in bone and cannot be moved by orthodontic forces, so this must be carefully factored into the treatment plan. Crowned or bridged teeth can be moved, but the method of attaching orthodontic appliances may differ. A precision diagnosis will be conducted before starting orthodontic treatment to create an individualized plan.
